R&D
Without Research and Development (R&D) India will be in a precarious position as far as the status of IT and BPO of India with respect to East Europe and China is concerned. Not only in IT but also in other industrial sectors India has not effectively made a mark in the world level as far as innovation, research and development are concerned. So far only USA, UK, France, Germany and Russia are inventing commercially viable products in the world. Japan, South Korea, etc. are making only improvisations over the inventions of the western countries. So, only by research and development any country can profitably hold control over any product and services as long as possible without fear of other countries of the world over taking it by better innovations.
Japan, South Korea and China
Japan became world economic super power by vast sales of bikes, cars, cameras, TVs and Computers in the global market only by improvisations made through research and development. Its competitors like South Korea and China also thrived by making those products with sub standard materials for making sales at lower prices. Now all these countries are competing with one another in the world market.
Superman to Space Man
Man became a civilised being first by the inventions of fire, wheel and agriculture. In the 20th century by the inventions of electricity, electromagnetic waves and electronic devices, he has become a Superman. In the 21st century by researches in Space technology, he will soon become a Space Man by introducing Space Ship One, etc. for commercial Space travels!
Inventions and Innovations
By continuous works in a private technical research institute, Thomas Alva Edison invented electric bulb that brought living day lights in the night world! Recently, Bill Gates by his continuous researches brought the whole world on the small Computer screen operating under his Microsoft system, which is being followed by all the countries in the world! Now Japanese companies are competing with one another by introducing new, new internet cell phones (Wi-Fi) with computer, web camera and video game player facilities that have brought the big world within the palm of man! So, for inventions and discoveries USA and UK are models and for innovations and improvisations Japan is the model for the world today!
USA, Scientific Super Power
In the western countries, as a mark of civilisation, technology and commerce are given utmost importance; but in the East, culture and politics prevail over everything. Especially, America outwardly speaks highly of its science as the real one in the world of science on the basis of its uninterrupted researches and inventions for a period of 100 years between 1814 and 1914 in the 20th century. That is why due to its research and development programmes USA is still a world super power in science and technology.
English, the only link language
Just as extinct species, but for 15 languages, all the other languages that are not in Computer use perhaps will become fossils with English remaining as the only link language for the whole world by 2020! May be the East European countries would have vast scope for business process out sourcing (BPO) works in French, German and other languages. But American and British companies out source their back office works to Ireland, India and Philippines, the world centres for BPO in the English language.
Hardware and Software Super Powers
This is a feat that cannot be surpassed by Japan, Russia and even China because of the policies of the use of their own languages only. So, China, South Korea and other countries can be super powers in hard wares only. But India will be a soft ware super power in Asia because of its technical knowledge, professional expertise and English language skill in programming with the sales of soft ware, which has been more than $13.4 billion since 2003 and will increase still more in the years to come!
Steps to be taken by India
1. So, in India the learning of English language should be encouraged for all and for higher studies also without the imposition of other languages that affect the learning of science and humanities that are necessary for socio-economic development.
2. To make a head way in technology, India should establish Science and Technology (S&T) Research Laboratories along with the General Book Libraries all over the country.
3. At present there is no connection between Scientific Researches in the Universities and the Industries there. Only private enterprises are having commercially viable Research and Development (R&D) programmes. So, joint ventures of Universities and Industries can change the trend for the better in India.
4. Publication of S&T Research Papers should be encouraged by the Public and Private Sectors, which is the incentive that will pave the way for useful and profitable R&D in the country as far as IT, hardware, automobiles, scientific gadgets, etc. are concerned.
