Mabel Annie Chacko
I was born on 6th September, in Ahmedabad, a city in the western region of India. Having been born n brought up in cities, my heart always craved to be surrounded by nature- which happened during our visits to Kerala- from where we hail. So these visits, though not very regular, gave me plenty of memories to cherish, and they became the basic raw-material for me to start writing on. At the age of 10, I spread my wings and started on a journey to the horizon of poetry.
Poetry, in more ways than one, helps me with the identity crisis and pangs I felt, as a teenager. The journey over the past decade and a half has been really enriching. It was interspersed with harsh comments and criticism for extensively writing about Nature and being aloof to the realities of life. But that has given me a greater stimulus to write about Nature. The fact remains, that I have been a keen observer of Nature ever since I was a child, and no matter how much I may have grown, Nature and it’s bounties never fail to amuse me. I have a passion for all primitive forms of existence and am amazed at the secrets of their existence- a quality for which many of my friends have nicknamed me ‘Lady Wordsworth’. I still love to idle time beside my window and peer into Nature’s bounties till I become a part of it or it becomes a part of me.
Apart from poems, I write articles, short stories and also review books. I have contributed my works to House Journals like ‘Shree Vayam’ (IDBI Ltd.), ‘Collegue’ (State Bank of India), ‘Baldwinian’ (Baldwin Girls’ School, Bangalore), etc. and also to many other magazines in India and the US, apart from www.poetsindia.com - a treasure trove of poetry of which I’ve been a part since the past 6 years, and www.aparnaonline.com through which Aparna has been grateful enough to publish a few of my articles. I thank her for providing me this opportunity to develop my skill at writing articles, essays, and short stories.
