Living With Differences

We tend to gravitate towards people who are the most like us, we tend to like people who are on the " same page", It is only natural for us to love and be in agreement with people who think and behave like us because they make us comfortable and secure. However, life is an unpredictable grand circus of different characters. Some of us are comedians, some are heroes, and some are villains and then there are extroverts, ambiverts and introverts. Some people always try to think and act for others and yet some bask in their own egos and thoughts about their mortal selves. For some, nothing else matters in life other than their selfish needs and greed. Life always has its way of bringing us into contact with people who challenge us with their differences.
In many situations in life we may not be working or associating with people with whom we can really relate. It may be an obvious difference reflected in their outward appearance, a different philosophical stance, different business ethics, ideologies, culture, hobbies and outlook. Even in our closest circle of friends and family, there are those that confront us and almost threaten us with their different ways of experiencing and expressing life. They keep challenging us with their diverse and sometimes with seemingly ridiculous views and acts. We normally choose to resist or run away from them but we can also choose to learn from them and appreciate that they too have a place in the grand kaleidoscope of life.
We all want peace and quietude in life without struggle. However, the truth is that human beings are, at this time, thriving in a world of differences, calamities and challenges. It is how we react and choose to approach these hurdles, that determine our real success and happiness. We will stumble, and then get up, brush the dust off and carry on with life. This is how we learn and grow, developing depth of character and understanding. In a world of differences, we have trouble defining ourselves without something opposite, and can't discover who we are. We are always struggling with our identity and trying to define and redefine our own identity. This is a real challenge that we all must face.
Without challenge, there is nothing to do and nothing to discover. That leaves us either in a state of non-being or the state of pure spirit, but as humans, we are spiritual beings experiencing the physical world in all of its startling contrast and beauty. We are not physical beings having spiritual experiences but spiritual beings having physical experiences.
No matter how spiritual or Godly we are, our lives will have challenges. We will continue to run into people who are diametrically opposite in so many ways, but the true challenge may be in finding ways to be at peace with this process. We need to get rid of the basic animal instinct of fight or flight, and find new ways to evolve together into higher and more beautiful expressions of ourselves. We need to realize, embrace and celebrate the beauty of diversity and the strength it offers for the future. The real beauty lies in finding the true unity that lies hidden in all our differences.
We must learn to live with differences in order to enter the world without any differences and true peace.
