Debi Mukherjee
Hi! I am Debi. Just celebrated my 62nd birthday on 25th December 2007. Hailing from a small town in West Bengal I have the privilege of completing post graduation in Chemistry from Calcutta University. 30 years of my precious life I have devoted to Central Govt. in Delhi. Organizing/attending conferences/meetings at national and international level was a part of my job commitment. This has given me the opportunity to visit various parts of the country and also to travel to 12 countries in the world. Being a Hindu, my sojourn to Vatican in Rome four times justifies my birth on Christmas day. In the year 1999, I took the bold decision to opt for voluntary retirement. This has given me the opportunity to utilize my time according to my own sweet will.
Obviously my mother tongue is Bengali. Medium of instruction in school was also in that language. Looking back I wonder how did I cope with English language orally as well as in writing! First lesson was from my Mom at toddler age-learning c-a-t, d-o-g. Though English was not a spoken language a lot of emphasis was given on learning grammar by teachers in School as well as by my Papa. And that was the beginning. Moral lessons for sticking to the truth and not being covetous were from Grandma’s story based on mythology. Preparing notes/presentations during my professional life inculcated the flair of writing.
My one and only daughter Aparna, son-in-law Mriganka and two cute grandchildren, Raj and Rupa are prized possessions. Inspirations for writing articles are from my husband and daughter. That has now become one of my favourite past times. Other hobbies include reading Newspaper from first to last page, novels and travelogues; enjoying classical music, viewing indian dances like kathak, painting and sculpture; walking and appreciating nature and making friendship with little kids.
* Debi Mukherjee is also an honoured Columnist of Anjuman.
