Foot Care in Monsoon

Compiled by Debi Mukherjee (India, 27/07/11)

1. Talc please -- Use talcum powder after shower. Infection and growth of bacteria happen due to excess moisture and talcum powder absorbs this moisture.

2. More of mint -- Mint based creams and foot scrubs are great for this season because mint is a natural deodorant and is also a good antiseptic. Basil based foot packs are a good option for your feet. Try and avoid greasy creams that may leave residue.

3. Let your feet breathe -- Wear open toed footwear whenever possible. If wearing there is not possible during the day, when you reach home, remove your shoes as well as socks and wear slippers. This is important as air exposure is essential to avoid growth of microbes.

4. Keep socks handy -- Always carry an extra pair of socks with you to work. Keeping the feet dry is important to avoid fungal infections. In case you step in a puddle, you will have a fresh pair of socks to wear.

5. Relaxing treatments -- Keep your feet squeaky clean and completely dry. Get a foot cleaning or pedicure done at least once in every three weeks in the monsoon season. A good foot reflexology will not only clean your feet but will also improve foot health.
